Adoration 1 - Prophecy Starts with Intimacy!
Get Started - Practice on Your Own
The Word of God is full of life and truth! As we meditate on scripture, “chewing” on God’s Word, it will start to change our thoughts and feelings. Meditation on scripture is a way to practice being close to Jesus.
To get started, let's practice meditating on Psalm 131:2 in The Passion Translation:
I am humbled and quieted in your presence.
Like a contented child who rests on its mother’s lap,
I’m your resting child and my soul is content in you.
Get started:
- Read the scripture.
- Write the scripture. (Yes, write it down! There is a different brain-body connection when physically writing down the words.)
- Sing the scripture by singing the verse to an instrumental worship song.
- Say the scripture out loud. (Yes, saying out loud helps your brain to “hear” it!)
- Pray the scripture by taking small snippets of scripture and turning it into your own words of prayer.
This model of meditation on scripture is one we learned from Kirk Bennett and we'll include more on this later. But for now, explore engaging with the scripture verse with the Getting Started steps and keep practicing throughout the week.
Join in Singing and Praying
In the Adoration video, we are making a space for you to practice getting in God's presence. What the singers are doing in the microphone is what you can be doing in your seat (or car, or on a run, or waving flags, or dancing, or when lying on the floor).
You get out of it what you put in!
